The first point release of the Bionic Beaver is out now. Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS is the first increment out of six planned releases before the 18.10 plunge. Like any other point releases, this version also includes all the latest applications, security updates, and updates that were released after April 26th, 2018 when the Bionic Beaver was released.

What’s New in Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS

Here are some important updates in this version of Ubuntu.

  • Speed up unattended-upgrade
  • Don’t start or gracefully stop upgrade on battery
  • Restore File > New Tab menu item in the Terminal
  • Fix transparency issue on Wayland display server

Upgrading to Ubuntu 18.04.1 from Ubuntu 18.04

If you are on Ubuntu 18.04 and your PC is getting updates installed as they come, you don’t need to do anything. Ubuntu will get automatically upgraded. But if you can’t wait for the automatic update to kick in, you can manually force an update. Here are the steps:

Step 1) Launch “Terminal”. You can do that by pressing Ctrl+Alt+T simultaneously.

Step 2) Enter the following command:

sudo apt update

Step 3) Enter the following command and press enter:

sudo apt upgrade

Pay attention to the progress in the ‘Terminal’. You must enter ‘Y’ and press enter.
